Reflecting on 2024 by Simon Scaife
I’ve been thinking recently about my personal development in car transporting since 1988, when I started in a Ford Cargo twin deck. The reason being, that I’ve no idea where 2024’s gone, let alone the past 36 years! 🤯
I’ve learnt so much over that time, and gone from a Driver, to Driver Trainer, to Transport Supervisor, to Regional Transport Manager, through to National Transport Operations manager, ending up running VTT with Sarah.
At VTT we found a nice little niche within the vehicle logistics industry to wedge ourselves in, providing guidance and support to help reduce the risk to the driver and the operation. This helped us build strong relationships with our customers and the authorities, which ultimately led to being asked to build the Code of Practice. This didn’t work out quite as I’d hoped, but it was a great learning experience, and we now have a supported guidance document to give operators and drivers alike, a pretty easy to follow guide to improve working and safety standards.
Along the way, I got struck by a passing vehicle again (a re-occurring problem for car transporter drivers working in the live lane), so came up with the idea for the now patented NuVech AirBar. The process from “love, I’ve got an idea….” to where we are now, with distribution deals worldwide and working with some major blue chip brands is frankly mind blowing. Sarah gives herself no credit for what she’s achieved in growing this business, and it has been incredibly tough, but as with VTT, the reason we do this is to help and to keep our drivers safe.
Sounds a bit cliche I know, but we class our customers as friends, always have and always will, so to hear that we may have helped prevent an injury or worse is what keeps us going.
Now this is where I’m asking for your help. Although I think we’re well know for support with driver safety and operational compliance, we still receive calls and emails from businesses who’ve seen us on t’internet, asking if we can support, so for those still awake, could you possibly repost to your network?
I honestly don’t need any more work, that’s not why I’m asking. I just realise that there are still businesses out there who may need more specific support and at present, they’re not aware of us.
Thanks for your time and have a great weekend 🥳😎
