Driving Safety Forward:
The NuVech Mission
NuVech Solutions Ltd was founded in 2017 by Sarah Scaife and Simon Scaife CMILT, who bring over 35 years of hands-on experience in the Vehicle Logistics industry. Their passion for road safety, combined with a personal near-miss experience, led to the development of AirBar, an innovative safety solution designed to protect both drivers and Vulnerable Road Users (VRU’s).
NuVech was created out of a genuine need for safer roads. Drawing on his industry experience, Simon recognised the importance of safety for both drivers and VRU’s such as cyclists. His personal experiences shaped the company’s mission to deliver innovative safety solutions that save lives.
Today, NuVech is a UK-based company with a global customer base. The AirBar system is gaining international traction, with a clear vision to make it a standard for road safety worldwide.
The Existing Safety Challenge
Working Dangers
Roadside work and vehicle manoeuvring can expose drivers and operatives to severe risks. From recovery operators to refuse collectors, many industries face high risks of incidents.
AirBar aims to mitigate these risks by enhancing safety for operatives working at the side of the vehicle in live lane environments, reducing roadside incidents and lowering insurance claims for fleet operators.
Risks to Vulnerable Road Users
Another function of AirBar is to help protect cyclists and VRUs. Vehicle safety systems, such as AI cameras, alert drivers to objects in close proximity. Current systems rely on the driver’s reactions, but the effectiveness of AI technology has now increased the in-cab warnings to a level of cognitive overload. This places more pressure on the driver in high stress situations.
NuVech’s AIrBar provides a proactive solution that works with AI technologies to support drivers, enhancing cycle safety by increasing visual awareness when a vehicle is turning to the nearside.
42% of cycle fatalities occurred at, or within 20m of a junction.
70% of all cycle incidents occurred at, or within 20m of a junction.
Incidents with cyclists involving HGVs, are over 700% more likely to result in fatalities.

Why the AirBar Makes Sense
Introduction: The Roadside Risk We Don't Talk About Enough Every day across our motorways, laybys and city streets, thousands of people work just inches away from fast-moving traffic. Whether they’re emergency responders, recovery operatives, delivery drivers, utility workers, or road maintenance crews—these professionals put themselves in harm’s way to keep others moving safely. Yet roadside incidents remain a major and under-acknowledged threat. Drivers often pass too fast or too close, distracted or unaware of how exposed these workers really are. And traditional safety tools—cones, lights, signs—often fall short in alerting or modifying driver behaviour. In this post, we explore how the AirBar is changing that. We’ll explain why it was created, how it works, and why it offers a smarter, more effective layer of protection for those who work in high-risk roadside environments.Real People, Real Risks How often have you passed a breakdown or crash scene on the motorway? You glance, maybe slow slightly—but do you actively change lanes or moderate your speed to consciously and actively protect those helping at the scene? The reality is sobering: distracted or inattentive drivers are a key factor in secondary collisions. Those at the roadside—police, paramedics, recovery drivers, or fleet operators—are often struck while simply doing their job. The same applies to those unloading vehicles, delivering goods, emptying bins or fixing potholes. Every day, they step into live traffic zones without adequate protection from other drivers.Born from Experience The AirBar was developed by Simon Scaife, CMILT, with firsthand experience of this risk. After yet another near-miss while loading a car transporter at the roadside, Simon knew there had to be a better way to get traffic to move over. He wanted something simple, visible, and practical. Something that didn’t just alert drivers—but actively changed their behaviour. From that moment, the concept of the AirBar was born.Simple. Smart. Effective. The AirBar is an inflatable visual barrier that attaches to the side of a stationary vehicle—creating a bold, eye-level cue for oncoming traffic to move over and slow down. Made from durable, UV-protected material and tested to over 30,000 deployments, the AirBar inflates quickly and securely. It features bright, high-contrast colours and flashing LEDs to command attention—day or night, rain or shine. One of its key advantages? It deploys from inside the cab. This means operators can activate the AirBar before exiting the vehicle—stepping out into an already protected workspace. Traditional methods like placing cones require stepping into live traffic, often with little visual impact. Cones are low to the ground, easily blown over, and far less visible—especially in low light or night-time conditions. The AirBar, by contrast, remains upright, eye-level, and effective no matter the time of day or weather. And because it's air-filled, it poses no risk of injury or damage if struck. Why It Matters It’s not just a gadget—it’s a life-saving tool. The AirBar makes sense because it’s: Highly visible, even in poor conditions Quick and safe to deploy Proven to influence driver behaviour Lightweight, durable, and low maintenance Designed by operatives, for operatives The question is no longer why use the AirBar—but why not?Join the Movement for Safer Roads If you’re responsible for roadside safety—whether for a fleet, a local authority, a recovery business or utility team—the AirBar is a proven, effective solution that enhances your duty of care.
